The inspiration behind "From Rock to Opera" comes from the Voices show, which brought together more that twenty-one singers, including soprano Christine Williams. After receiving strong public acclaim, the next idea was to adapt the show's content for more limited distribution, while preserving the initial spirit and emotion. The main challenge was to find more versatile voices, which could excel across a repertoire that was as extensive as it was demanding. A third voice was added after an initial trial with Christine Williams and rock singer Patrice Blouin. Soul singer Kim Richardson helped bridge the gap between rock and opera. Her arrival allowed the team to reach its ultimate goal, which was to create a true "vocals event" with a totally new arrangement of musical styles and eras. It didn't take long for them to achieve astounding results. They took Gershwin's classic "Summertime", and performed it three different ways - in rhythm n' blues, classical and Janis Joplin-style rock 'n' roll versions.
Sylvain Cormier of Le Devoir reviews: "From Rock to Opera is one fine variety show. In fact, nearly everything works for them .. especially the trios, which are truly amazing. Imagine a Porgy and Bess version of Summertime by Williams, a jazzy performance reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald by Richardson and a Janis Joplin-style rendition by Blouin. Better yet, just think of the impossibly complex "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen with all its glorious vocals."
"From Rock to Opera" has also been reviewed as "absolutely incredible .. a must see" and acclaimed for its "beautiful vocals" ..... but you'll need to see it for yourself!
